8 Bells for Roger Vaughan
Roger Vaughan passed away peacefully at his home in Easton, MD on August 25, 2025.

Roger has been a life long sailor with experiences that included the lethal '79 Fastnet Race and a leg of the 1990 Whitbread Race as well as intercollegiate dinghies at Brown University, where he graduated in 1955. A prolific writer, his first book was The Grand Gesture, published in 1973, about a struggling America's Cup syndicate, which began his ongoing involvement with coverage of the America's Cup. Roger worked for many years as a writer for Gary Jobson and ESPN TV; has written and directed a score of videos; co-authored the story for the feature film Wind; and was founding editor of The YACHT magazine He has written twenty-two other books, including the biography of media magnate, Ted Turner. His writing focus was always about accomplished people.

Roger was one of the first individuals to dive into RC Lasers when first introduced to the Mid-Atlantic area in 2006. He became a major contributor for the Oxford (Maryland) RC Laser Fleet and was a multi-time club champion. Roger stressed activities to recruit new members as well as helping the fleet and Tred Avon YC host many major North American and AMYA National championships in the RC Laser, Star-45, EC12 and IOM classes over the years.

Roger was a terrific sailing competitor in our region for almost thirty years, and will be truly missed by all who knew him, especially his loving family.
