Flash Back to 2022 AMYA Champion of Champions

I had a "Flash Back" last night — no, it was not a 1980's flashback to Disneyland on the Small World ride. It was back to the 2022 AMYA Champion of Champions regatta hosted by Chuck LeMahieu and Dragon Sailing North America, and filmed by Sailing World.

Go back and look up the entry list for this event at the AMYA Regatta Results page , then go to the Sailing World video on YouTube that was taken.

The effort by LeMahieu is amazing -- not only organizing the event at the Trinity River Yacht Club, but also providing boats, determining the selection process of competitors, creating custom competitor insignia on each of the boats, flying in the competitors, providing meals, and -- if that was not enough -- purchasing tickets for everyone to attend a professional hockey game. I mean, who does that?

The AMYA supported the event by donating five thousand dollars, yet it's pretty obvious that LeMahieu went deep into his own pocket.

While re-watching the video, look at all the exposure RC sailing received -- just with the entries, the interviews, and the racing. It was all top shelf.

Now, how can we do this again?

Finding a Champion to organize and run such an event is a high hurdle. There is no doubt in my mind that this event is a must, and must be continued.

The dream of attending an event like this is a lofty goal, but I WANT it. Wouldn't you?

Now go back and re-watch the video. Go to the end of the video at the start of the awards presentation. LeMahieu: "My reward is having you guys here."

WELL DONE, LeMahieu -- you set the bar high. Now we just have to find a way to do it again.

Let's go sailing!
