2025 Soling Region 7 Championship Regatta (R7CR)
The Sarasota Model Yacht Club hosted the AMYA 2025 Soling 1M Region 7 Championship Regatta on November 15th-16th. 14 Skippers competed.
Saturday started with 14 skippers sailing in 5mph and shifty winds from the NE, which proceeded to shift to the N and completely die out around noon. But after a lunch break the wind came roaring back at 9-12 mph from the W for the remainder of the day. Competition was spirited and collaborative, and by lunch six individuals were in the running for the first six spots with the remainder of the field competing for the remaining spots. John Seepe, unfortunately, experienced equipment failure that could not be repaired in the field and had to drop out of the regatta. The day ended with Curt Martin, Ron Prokop, and Steve Holdeman in first, second, and third places, respectively.
Until 10:30am, there was no wind on Sunday. But it then rapidly increased to 5-10 mph from the SW, and then shifted to the W at 9-12 mph in the afternoon. Overall, the entire fleet had two days of great racing, comradery, and fun.
Many thanks to a great group of volunteers who helped make it happen, beginning early in the week setting up the course, and managing the food, equipment, skipper needs, and details of the regatta. Thanks also to Scott Rowland of Windjammin Sails, who donated a valuable prize which was won by Ron Prokop.
