Saturday started off in 38-degree weather with a North wind at 10-13mph and drizzle. On day 1, our die-hard sailors managed 13 races, and many smiles were peeking out as the day’s weather continued to improve. A fabulous lunch was provided by our new vendor ‘Tacobar Street’ who specializes in Mexican cuisine with a twist of Asian flavors. We received some rave reviews, and our sailors returned from lunch happy, satiated, and ready to rumble! Following our club’s tradition, we divided into gold and silver fleets on day #2. This division provides incentive for our fleet’s “up and comers” to continue battling competitively for a chance at their own trophy place finishes. At the end of day 1 our silver fleet leaders were all within a few points of each other. Just one race could change their positions, so our silver fleet competitors had every reason to keep fighting. Sunday’s temperatures quickly rose into the upper 50’s. Light and shifty northwest winds made course setting difficult and races slow, but we still managed an additional 8 races for a total of 21 for the regatta. Lunch was promptly delivered to the sailing site by Seven Sea’s. This vendor out did themselves providing a delicious seafood feast fit for kings! Final podium standings for the regatta are Gold Fleet: 1st Chris Macaluso, 2nd Mark Cooper and 3rd AL Ross. Silver Fleet: 1st Richard Delgado, 2nd Vickie Stones and 3rd Tirza Dabdoub. After the trophy ceremony Commodore Mike Causey gave a special presentation to honor our departed club member and friend, Mike Gale. Mike’s RC Laser was gifted to new member Roger Arocha.
