Orange County Model Sailing Club was delighted to host the 2024 US1Meter NCR over two days with 24 heats. 15 skippers made it the largest recent turnout for a US1Meter NCR. Jess Atkinson repeats his National Championship with 1st place, 45 points. Jim Sears 2nd with 50 pts. Larry Grant, a prior Champion, with 72 points. Don Frakes, OCMSC Commodore, 4th with 92 points, and Mike Fujita, a prior Champion, 5th with 117 points. Mike Schachter was 6th and awarded Grand Master for fastest skipper over 75 years old. I have to point out that in spite of Jim Black sinking his boat on the second day he still beat me! About 6 inches of his mast appeared on the surface midlake. Jim retrieved his boat after the regatta concluded using a standup paddle board. That is so Southern California! Len Bose was an absolutely superb PRO. Gene Elliot, Jim Beaupre and Freddie Stevens great assistants and score keepers. We were genuinely appreciative that our US1M Class Secretary, Steve Vaczovsky was on hand and raced with us.
