Soling 1 Meter Region 2 Regatta Marbleheaders of Spring Lake Devine Park, Spring Lake NJ 11/02/2024 Sailors were greeted with a Partially crisp morning with temps in the low 50’s and wind out of the N -NE at 10 -14 mph with plenty of shifts. We had 10 sailors on the line for this regatta with the usual bunch from the Marbleheaders of Spring Lake and sailors from Chest Springs Model Sailing Club and Mount Laurel Model Sailing Club. Judy Bonanno was the RD assisted by Region 2 Director Dave Branning. The Pro for the event was Mike Campbell. A long windward leeward course was setup with and offset at the windward mark and a gate at the downwind end. The format was single fleet with a throw-out for every six races. The regatta had 18 heats allowing for three throw-outs. The racing started with the wind firmly in the NE direction with very few shifts but as the day wore on the winds clocked further N and there were huge shifts in both direction and velocity. On to the racing!!! Right out of the gate Sean Bradley was dominating the fleet with Ivor Walton the only sailor keeping him honest. The rest of the fleet by lunch were sailing for third. In 5th place was Don Upmal #12 with a score of 73. In 4th place was Dominick Bonanno #2919 with a score of 64. And in 3rd was Mike Campbell #165 with a score of 56. In 2nd place was Ivor Walton #4131 with a score of 49. And in 1st place was Sean Bradley #32 With a score of 15.
