Western Reserve Model Yacht Club Chili Bowl Regatta Regatta Report 9/21/2024 - 9/21/2024 Regatta No. 10454 Class: Soling 1 Meter Date: Saturday September 21, 2024 Number of Skippers: 15 Weather: Fair. High temperature 77 degrees Winds: 4- 8 MPH w/ slight shifts Format: ½ day Match Racing plus ½ day Fleet Racing Race Management: fleet racing w/ single Start; Match Racing per the WRMYC Method Courses: Fleet Racing : Sail GP Regatta summary: WRMYC had our Soling 1 Meter Chili Bowl Regatta, Saturday, Sept. 21. We had a total of 15 boats, 14 Match raced, plus Don Hain joined us for the Fleet Racing in the afternoon. The (newly-named) Chili Bowl Regatta this year had two components- in the morning from 9 AM- 11:30 we had Match Racing. After lunch from 1PM to 3 PM, we had fleet racing. Fleet racing courses (with one Start) were the Sail GP - a short close reach to the first mark followed by two offwind/ upwind legs with a gate, then rounding the final mark to starboard to a broad reach to Finish. National Champion Scott Rowland won again, scoring 23 points in nine races. Scott won over 2nd place John McKinney by a net 3 points over the 9 races. And Bob Bottenhorn was in third, a mere 2 points behind John!! The standings up and down were very close almost everywhere. For Match Racing we followed the plan published in the Summer 2024/ Issue 219 of Model Yachting magazine, pages 30-33, available online to AMYA Members (and you should have also received a print copy in May or so.) If you have any questions- contact mikewyatt49@gmail.com. Thanks to all who came, and to Larry Lamphier, Nate Graham, Bob Valentine, and Dave Steger for setting up and managing the regatta!
