WIMMYC Spring 2024 DF95 Regatta - AMYA #223, Region #4
Lake Tomah - May 31, 2023
Thomas Germanson, Regatta Coordinator
The second annual DF95 regatta hosted by the Wisconsin, Illinois & Minnesota Model Yacht Club (WIMMYC) was an enjoyable sailing experience for sailors and spectators alike in Tomah, Wisconsin where area residents, family and friends were hosts to 10 participants and spouses. The WIMMYC extends our thanks to David, Jane & Mark, Heather, Jean, Siri, Sean, Rose, Sue, Seth and Debbie for their donations and volunteer work.
The WIMMYC appreciates the work of Joe from the City of Tomah's Park & Rec Department, The Tomah Chamber & Visitor Center, Tomah Health, Kwik Trip and Murray's on Main restaurant. Their contributions and work facilitated a well run and enjoyable regatta.
Mother Nature provided warm spring weather for the first day of racing with highs around 80 degrees and winds southerly at 5-10 mph. The second day of racing was canceled due to no winds and steady rain.
Additional thanks go to Jeff Gros as race director and Jean Bower, Debbie Bierman and Thomas Germanson as assistant race directors. We had the control area on the western shore of the lagoon with a whiteboard and a Bluetooth megaphone for the audible AMYA starting sequence. We were able to set a flexible race course which added interest and excitement to shifting winds and challenging lake conditions. We completed 18 races and used the ezRegattaPRO app for scoring. The app worked seamlessly with the AMYA membership/regatta listings on an iPad.
A shout out goes to each of our kind and dedicated sailors all of whom traveled long distances to participate. The sailing was competitive and respectful which you'll see in the attached race results. It was clear that this group of sailors were interested in an excellent sailing experience when compliments were plentiful and fouls were rare. This camaraderie between sailors created an memorable sailing experience. Congratulations to each sailor!
Please know the regatta was a success because of everyone's contributions and it could not have happened without each of you! Thank you!!
Respectfully submitted,
Thomas Germanson, Regatta Coordinator
