Despite dire forecasts for rain and thunderstorms, Triangle Model Yacht Club resisted the provocation to postpone, and the competitors were rewarded with fairly steady 5-7mph SW winds, cloudy skies and temperatures from 75 to 82 degrees - and no rain. All 10 entrants were local to Triangle Model Yacht Club. We'd love to see some more Star 45s in the Southeast!

We started late to avoid predicted (but unrealized) morning showers and canceled lunch due to the difficulty of organizing lunch with no shelter and predicted rain. Five one-lap races were dashed off to get the regatta in the books, switching then mostly two-lap races for the remainder of the day. Race Director Martin Bowers ran a tight ship, keeping the skippers on the move with a new race as soon as the previous one finished, and a short break after every three races.

Michael Roberson sailed consistently to be the undisputed winner, with the most first and second finishes, discarding two fourths. Chase Thomas was usually in the top three sailing his home-built wooden Star 45 to second place overall. Rick Ferguson did well when he did well, but couldn't stay out of trouble long enough to do better than third. To quote Wm. Shakespeare, The fault is not in our Stars, but in ourselves. Perennial favorite Tom Rummage also incurred a few fouls (given and received) and suffered a battery failure to DNF one race or he might have placed higher. Rising star Jason Troy had good speed and tactics all day. All protests were quickly resolved on the water.

Many members of Triangle Model Yacht Club gave generously of their time to make this regatta possible for the Star 45 fleet; see Regatta Committee and Valuable Assistants below. Special thanks to Kelly and Chris Bock for scoring.
