2024 ODOM Region2 Championship Regatta (R2CR) By Tom Walsh

Maryland Model Yacht Club hosted the rescheduled 2024 ODOM R2CR on May 11, 2024. The regatta was originally scheduled to be held on May 4, 2024 but that day was a washout with pouring rain for most of the day.

Wind was predicted to be N at 5 mph, clocking to SE and building slightly throughout the day. Unfortunately, the actual wind was extremely light, variable in direction and frequently shifting 180 degrees, making for very challenging sailing conditions. Eight races were held prior to lunch of pizza, soda, and Holly's homemade chocolate chip cookies. The breeze in the afternoon occasionally reached 5 to 6 mph but was still full of large shifts and many holes. Despite the challenging conditions, another seven races were held before the 3:00 pm cutoff, for a total of fifteen races on the board.

Hearty congratulations to Commodore Steve Howard (1st place), Tom Walsh (2nd place) and to Mike Rickels (3rd place). Congratulations also the Mike Rickels son, Devin for scoring three 1st place finishes and to John Ebell for one 1st place finish. We also welcomed new fleet member James Earle to the MMYC ODOM fleet.
