It is always impressive when a class secretary decides to venture out and support his class at another regional
championship. Mike Wyatt, former AMYA President and current passionate Soling 1M Class Secretary, with
wife Anita in tow, drove 500 miles from Ohio to Spring Lake, NJ to support the R2 S1M Championship.
Impressive!
The Marbleheaders of Spring Lake took advantage of Mike's presence and booked Mike for a two-dayer. Sunday was the SIN (Solings in November). That regatta report is separate from, this one. The RCR brought out 11 boats and Dom Bonanno was kind enough to lend me a fast boat. Unfortunately, the chartering skipper proceeded to hold this stallion back. Mother Nature struggled in her attempts at wind and we spent a few races paused in place waiting for the next prevailing puff. Sean Bradley, who was second here last year, now with a brand-new boat, found his own wind to just crush the field by 29 net points. Ivor Walton, a veteran Mid-Atlantic Soling skipper, held off Dom Bonanno for second. Dom came on strong in the afternoon to nose out Michael Campbell, DF95 Regional Director. Our guest, Mike Wyatt, finished fifth, just ahead of last year's winner, Jerry Franko.
The regatta team was led by Skip Hall with Judy Bonanno, Jerry Franko, Bill Sysyn, and Mike Campbell all lending a hand in making it a fun day. A big Bronx cheer to the guy who suggested pineapple pizza as a good choice. Really?
