2023 Infinity 54 National Championship Regatta (NCR)

Congratulations to Charles Witcher on mastering the light winds to win the 2023 Infinity 54 National Championship regatta after sailing 30 races over the 2-day regatta.

The NCR was held on September 18th and 19th at Bridgeway Lakes in West Sacramento and was the 2nd of 4 NCR's that made up the Sacramento and Elk Grove Model Yacht Club's Sail Week.

The 1st day's winds rarely blew more than 3-4 knots, but we managed to sail 16 races for the 10 racers. At the end of the day, Charles had a sizeable lead over Robert Weaver in 2nd. Brian Thompson, Bruce Anderson, and Lynn Graham rounded out the top 5.
With the aid of a teddy bear hanging upside down from the starting area's canopy, a little more wind arrived for day 2, but still rarely blew above about 4-6 knots. We sailed another 14 heats as Charles continued his winning ways, with the top four boats retaining their position. Gene Novak had a much better day and moved himself up to 5th place.

Volunteering and assisting were John Hancock as the Sail Week leader, Mark Erdrich as the Race Director. Bob Eger, Rick Pomeroy, and Colleen Ellis took care of scoring. Mark Observers were Neal Richmond, Doug Wilkinson, and Greg Fletcher. Food and water were taken care of by Cheryl Novak, Ginger Robinson, and Dan Robinson. Special thanks to Bob Buckley for making and donating the trophies.
