2023 Canterbury J NCR

The Sacramento Model Yacht Club and Elk Grove Model Yacht Club co-sponsored the 2023 Canterbury J National Championship Regatta at Bridgeway Lakes Park in West Sacramento. The first day started off with light variable winds in the 0-5 knot range but 12 heats were completed before the wind completely shut down at 2:30 PM. Racing was very competitive on Thursday with 5 different winners in the 12 heats and Kevin Gault ending the day with a narrow lead over Paul Brown followed closely by Charles Witcher and Brian Thompson. Lunch featured Dan Robinson Hot Dogs (the best) so everybody was well fed and watered.
The second day of competition continued with light variable winds from the NNW and we were able to conduct 9 more races before the wind shut down. The racing was still very competitive between the top four skippers, but in the end, it was visiting sailor Kevin Gault winning by1 Net point over Charles Witcher. Once again, the volunteers and food committee are to be commended for making this a fun, competitive event.
